Dopo essere stato dimesso dall'ospedale grazie a un misterioso benefattore, Kaneda riprende la scuola, cercando allo stesso tempo di recuperare i ricordi dell'incidente in cui la ragazza ha perso la vita. Come per confondere le cose, i ricordi soppressi si manifestano a lui sotto forma di un essere surreale dalla testa a forma di mezzaluna.
